Nara is an ancient city steeped in Japanese history. Nara was the residence of the Emperor during the Nara Period, from 710 to 784. Historic tourist attractions in Nara include Todaiji Temple, Saidaiji Temple, Kofukuji Temple, Kasuga Shrine, Gangoji Temple, Yakushiji Temple, Toshodaiji Temple, and Heijo Palace. World Heritage Sites in Nara include Horyuji Temple (designated 1993), Todaiji Temple (designated 1998), Kofukuji Temple (designated 1998), and Danjo Garan Temple (designated 2004). Deer are found in Nara Park in Nara City. |
