| Introduction |
Meiji Shrine is a Shinto shrine in Shibuya, Tokyo, dedicated to the deity of Emperor Meiji and his wife Empress Shoken. Meiji Shrine is located in a forest of 700,000 square meters. Meiji Shrine is adjacent to Yoyogi Park. Meiji Shrine consists of Naien and Gaien. Naien is the inner area centered around the shrine buildings, and is a treasure house that houses the relics of the Emperor and Empress, built in the Azekura-zukuri style. Gaien is the outer area, and contains the Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery, which houses 80 large murals depicting the lives of the Emperor and Empress. |
