[Greece] Day 7 of the Greek Historic site Tour |
Today will be a day of sleeping rough at the Athens airport.
After having our last breakfast at the hotel, we packed our bags by 9 o'clock and checked out of the hotel before leaving the hotel.
Today, we plan to visit the remaining 3 out of the 7 Acropolis package sites and then go to the Marathon ruins.
The weather in Athens was very cloudy.
We started with Hadrian's Library, which we couldn't see because it rained on Tuesday, and went to Kerameikos, famous for its ancient tombs. There were many students who had come to Kerameikos for a field trip since the morning. We learned new facts that there was a river flowing through Kerameikos and that there was a road leading to Plato's Academy.
Because Kerameikos is a tomb site, we saw many different tombs.
The relics from the tombs were on display at the Kerameikos Museum.
We saw Acts of the Apostles (Πράξεις των Αποστόλων) 22-32 engraved on the Apostle Paul's stone tablet near Areios Pagos Hill.
We walked for about 5 minutes to see the Socrates Prison again, and we also saw the Socrates Prison at the bottom of the Philopappos Hill (Λόφος Φιλοπάππου). We thought there were three prisons because there were three doors, but they were connected to each other, so they looked like one prison.
Now we headed to the souvenir shop to buy my dad a souvenir. Our goal for today was to buy Giannis Antetokounmpo's jersey, which costs 25 euros, for 24 euros. But we ended up having to buy it for 24.5 euros. That's because we had 20 euros and 4.5 euros in our wallet. It was too hard to take 50 euros out of our bag. We decided to try and see if we could succeed or not.
So we went to the souvenir shop and asked again how much the Giannis jersey was, and they said it was 25 euros. Then I asked if I could buy it for 24 euros, and the souvenir shop owner said to sell it for 24 euros, and asked what color he would show me, so I asked for blue, but he showed me a different uniform from the one hanging up.
“Why is it different?” he said, “The uniform you are showing me is new, and the one hanging up is old.”
So I took out my wallet with bills and coins, and the employee sorted out the coins and told me to pay only 23 euros. So I thought about asking for 2 for 40 euros~~~
Anyway, after buying the Giannis uniform for 23 euros, I started walking around Athens wearing the Giannis uniform. My son and I walked to the final destination of our Athens trip, Lyceum.
I really wanted to see the turtles at Lyceum. When I arrived at Lyceum, I looked for the turtles, but I couldn't find any.
Departing from Lycaeion, we took the subway from Ευαγγελισμός M3 subway station. The only things to prepare were to carry your bag in front of you, wear a mask, and sit against the wall or sit in your seat.
When we got off at Νομισματοκοπείο M3 subway station, it was pouring down rain again. It seemed like our trip to Greece started and ended with rain.
First, we headed to McDonald's because my son was hungry and needed to go to the bathroom.
When we checked the bus schedule, the bus to Marathon was leaving in 10 minutes. We gave up and ate a burger set at McDonald's to catch the 3:10 bus. Then, we suddenly saw AB Supermarket (ΑΒ Βασιλόπουλος) and decided to buy some chocolate gifts and headed to the supermarket. It was raining really hard.
When we arrived at the supermarket, there were a lot of things we wanted to buy, but our goal was chocolate.
I wanted to buy chocolate and do other shopping, but I didn't have much time.
After buying chocolate, I went to the bus terminal and waited for the bus.
However, it was almost 3:10 and I couldn't see the bus to the marathon. So I asked where the bus to the marathon was and they told me to take the orange bus at the front, so I took it.
I was riding the bus, but they didn't tell me to pay for the bus ticket, so I just kept going. Suddenly, the bus attendant got up and started taking the bus ticket. We told them we would pay for the round trip bus ticket to the marathon, so they said it was 3.7 euros x 2 = 7.4 euros, so we paid. But the ticket said Athens → Marathon 3.7 euros. What is this~~~
Since we were going to the marathon, I thought we should go quietly, so I looked outside, but I couldn't see outside because of the pouring rain.
After a while, all of a sudden, everyone started getting off. I was wondering what was going on, and a Greek person got off and told me to transfer buses. So we just transferred buses. The transferred bus started running. Then suddenly we saw a statue of Nike. This bus was not the final stop at Marathon, but a bus that passed Marathon. Luckily, I got off at Marathon, but the rain was still pouring down.
Marathon town was so quiet. So I decided to just visit the Marathon Run Museum and started walking. But this~~~ huge dog started following us. Honestly, I was scared. I had all sorts of thoughts like what if the dog bites me.
Luckily, we arrived in front of the Marathon Run Museum, but the door was tightly closed. It said that the operating hours were until 3:30 PM. So since we had come this far, we took a certification shot and headed back to the bus stop. It was to catch the bus that came at 3:40 PM.
On the way from the Marathon Run Museum to the bus stop, huge dogs were barking inside the house. It was such a scary neighborhood. A stray huge dog was still following us. It seemed to smell chocolate in my bag.
At the bus stop, my son suddenly told me to look to the side. There was a big stray dog next to me, watching me. It was really scary.
The bus was coming, but bus number 310 was coming. I wondered if I could really ride the Athens 5-day bus ticket, so I got on the bus and verified my ticket, and it was verified. I thought, “Ah, all the Athens city buses work.” So I decided to get off after passing the section where buses number 310 and 314 connect, and a drunk Greek man who was quietly walking ahead of us asked where I was from. I told him I was from Korea, but he didn't understand, so I told him I was from China, and he started to mutter something in Chinese or something. I didn't understand. I don't know if he got angry because he didn't understand, but he kept saying something to the driver, and the atmosphere was tense, but I endured it and waited for him to get off. Fortunately, he got off earlier than us. The drunk Greek man was getting on and off the bus without a bus ticket. The town near Marathon didn't have a very good atmosphere.
We had to take the 310 bus and get off at the ΚΕΠ ΡΦΗΝΑΣ bus stop and walk to the ΔΙΑΣΤΑΥΡΩΣΗ ΡΦΗΝΑΣ bus stop where the 314 bus would arrive, but the traffic lights were so scary. The red and green signal system was a mess. I could see why Greeks would cross the street at a red light if there were no cars. There weren't many cars at the red light, and many cars at the green light. To be honest, it was a day when I didn't understand the traffic light system in Athens.
I was waiting for the bus at the ΔΙΑΣΤΑΥΡΩΣΗ ΡΦΗΝΑΣ bus stop, and an orange bus was coming. So I raised my hand and shouted for it to stop. Because the 314 bus usually runs once every 40 minutes to 1 hour. I was worried that my son might catch a cold because it was raining a lot.
When the staff told me to take the Orange Bus to Athens, I paid 2.4 euros x 2 = 4.8 euros and got on the bus.
After getting off at the Νομισματοκοπείο bus terminal, I took the subway from Νομισματοκοπείο M3 subway station and got off at Σύνταγμα M3 subway station. Then we went to KFC for dinner, had dinner, went to the bathroom, and slowly left to take the X.95 bus to Athens Airport.
We arrived at the Athens Airport around 10:00 and had to sleep until 3:30 in the morning, but there was not enough space to sleep. This was because we had to catch a flight at 6:00 in the morning.
I felt very sorry for my son. I thought, “Why did we have to come to Greece sleeping like this?”
So I persuaded my son by saying that if he sleeps well, I will buy him Legos, and he said he will try hard too, so I thought my son was proud.
That's how we slept at the Athens airport.
We took a 6 o'clock flight from Athens Airport to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands, and after arriving at the Amsterdam Airport, I bought him the Legos he wanted.
Then I told my son that we had to wait here for about 12 hours before boarding the plane.
This was because we had to catch an 8:30 flight at the Amsterdam Airport.
My son said he could last 12 hours, so I felt sorry again.
The reason I set the flight time this long is because when I first bought the plane ticket, I bought it with Air France, but it was changed to KLM twice, so the waiting time was long.
And since it was my first trip to Europe since COVID-19, I didn't know what variables there might be, so I set the waiting time generously, but I found out that there won't be much waiting time if you board or transfer at the international airport in 2024.
I think the waiting time is 1 hour if it's fast.
So, if you want to take it easy, I think 2 hours is the best waiting time.
At around 8 o'clock at the Athens Syntagma bus stop, I paid 5.5 euros X 2 = 11 euros at the airport bus stop and took the X.95 airport bus to the airport.
I finally thought that I was finishing my trip to Greece and going to Korea.
I arrived at the Athens airport around 9:30 and went to the mart on the first floor of the airport to buy some food.
After buying water and snacks at the mart, I went back up to the second floor to try to get my ticket, but it wasn't issued, so I went to the information desk and asked, and they said that I could get my ticket at window 78-91 starting at 3:30 in the morning. We looked for a place to sleep, but we couldn't find a satisfactory place, so we decided to sit on a chair and close our eyes.
