[Norway] Introducing Norwegian mathematician Abel.
Niels Henrik Abel was born on August 5, 1802, in the church of Hesby on the island of Finnøy, Norway.

Abel's family was pastored by his grandfather and father.

Abel lived in the village of Gjerstad when he was young.

He went to middle school and learned mathematics from his teacher, Holmbo, who taught him his mathematical knowledge.

At the age of 18, he entered the Cathedral University in Christiania (Oslo) and majored in mathematics. He graduated in 1822 at the age of 20.

In 1824, Abel proved that equations of degree 5 or higher cannot be solved except in special cases where they can be factored.

He died at the young age of 26 on April 6, 1829 in Froland, Norway.

Abel's cause of death was tuberculosis and malnutrition.

In January 2002, the Norwegian Academy established the Abel Prize to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Abel's birth.

The Abel Prize is awarded annually for research achievements in various fields of mathematics.

The winners are announced in April each year, and the awards are presented in June. There is also a prize money.
